Why the conventional creams didn't work

Dr Jason, senior dermatologist from Hospital Kuala Lumpur

Many creams use emulsifiers to help oil and water mix. At bath time, water and soap can switch those emulsifiers back on. They then rinse away the cream, and can take your child's own protective skin lipids with it: the wash-out effect.

For dry, sensitive or eczema-prone skin, this can mean the dryness and itch come back after every bath, so you end up applying more and more cream.

Why this works: OLT

OLT lamellar cream in 3 steps: 1) damaged skin has gaps in the barrier lipid; 2) OLT lamellar cream fills the gaps by mimicking the skin's natural structure; 3) the barrier is restored, with the same structure as a healthy barrier.

Many creams mainly sit on top of the skin like a film, so washing can take them away and the dryness returns. Zeitschild's OLT (OrthoLamellar Technology) is designed differently. Its lipids mirror the skin's own layered structure, so they blend into your child's skin barrier to help fill the gaps and support the skin's ability to hold moisture.

Conventional creams cover the gap. OLT is designed to fill it.

FAQs

What is OLT?

OLT® (OrthoLamellar Technology) is the barrier technology in Zeitschild AR and BR, made in Germany and patented in 45+ countries. It's a lamellar cream, not an emulsifier-based cream: it mimics the skin's own layered lipid structure and fills in the gaps in a damaged barrier, instead of sitting on top like a film. It has been studied in research published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science (2024).

Can I use it alongside my child's doctor's cream or steroid?

Yes. We suggest AR, then BR, then the medication, unless your child's doctor advises otherwise. Always follow the doctor's instructions. Zeitschild is a cosmetic, not a medicine, and it does not replace prescribed treatment. If the skin is broken, weeping or infected, see the doctor first.

What age is it suitable from?

AR and BR are fragrance-free, available through paediatric clinics in Malaysia, and gentle enough for the whole family, from 3 months. Minimum age for AR and BR: 3 months.

Our 14-Day Barrier Promise to parents

  • You must have raised the issue with your consultant during the check-ins within the 14 days.
  • If your child's skin worsens or reacts, stop and see your child's doctor right away. Don't keep using it to film it. Tell us within the 14 days, and a reaction still qualifies for the refund without the videos.

Should I choose AR or BR?
  • AR (Active Relief): for red, itchy, irritated moments. Can be used alongside your child's doctor's treatment.
  • BR (Barrier Repair): daily barrier support for dryness and maintenance.
  • AR + BR (recommended): AR soothes, BR helps maintain the barrier between flares.
When should I use AR vs BR?
  • Mild itch, dryness or slight redness: AR on its own is a reasonable start.
  • A clear flare (red bumps, scratch marks, oozing, spreading or worsening itch): see your child's doctor early. AR can be used alongside the treatment they prescribe.
  • As the flare settles: use AR on itchy patches and BR on dry areas, then move to BR for daily care.
  • Thick skin that's still red and itchy: this can still be active eczema, so check with your child's doctor.
Does my child still need the steroid cream?

Your child's doctor decides that. If redness, itching or inflammation is severe, long-lasting, covers large areas or causes open wounds, stop all products (including ours) and see a dermatologist. Once the skin is no longer broken, AR and BR support the skin alongside the doctor's treatment.

What are the signs of a weak skin barrier?

Skin that often feels red, itchy, tight or irritated may have a weak barrier.

  1. Support the barrier structure. Choose products that work with the skin's "brick-and-mortar" lipids.
  2. Avoid harsh formulas. Strong soaps and emulsifiers can strip natural lipids.
  3. Choose gentle ingredients. No menthol, fragrance, mineral oils, silicones, dyes or steroids. Look for boswellic acid, glycyrrhetinic acid, troxerutin, niacinamide, ectoin and hyaluronic acid.
Which everyday habits weaken the skin barrier?
  • Strong soaps and cleansers, including at bath time
  • Detergents and harsh chemicals
  • Emulsifiers in everyday creams

Over time these wash away the lipids that hold the barrier together, like waves wearing down rock.

Can I use it in the diaper area?

It's gentle enough for babies, including the outer skin of the diaper area. Don't apply inside mucous membranes or on open wounds.

My child's skin reacts to everything. Will it sting?

OLT® formulas are designed for fragile skin, fragrance-free (BR is made without emulsifiers), and most people tolerate them well. Do not apply on open wounds. If irritation occurs, stop and contact us or your child's doctor.

How soon will we feel a difference?

Many people find it feels soothing from the first use. It supports barrier recovery with 14 days of consistent use. Results vary from person to person.

How did Zeitschild start?

Three years ago, a friend introduced us to the founder. She had struggled with sensitive skin and scalp for years, and OLT became part of her daily routine.

We weren't sure at first. Our baby kept getting diaper rash, so we used OLT from Germany as part of our baby's care, with our doctor's advice. It became something we trust at home.

Later we learnt the founder is the scientist behind DMS skin barrier technology. With OLT, he set out to mimic the full structure of the skin's lipid layers.

For us, this is more than skincare. It's about families feeling comfortable in their own skin.

How long does delivery take?

We ship within 24 working hours by GDex.

  • West Malaysia: 2–7 working days (free)
  • East Malaysia: 3–10 working days (+RM15 Sabah/Sarawak, +RM25 Labuan)
  • Singapore: 3–10 working days (+RM25)

If your order doesn't arrive, we'll refund you in full. Damaged or wrong item? Tell us within 3 days with a photo and we'll replace it free.
